There are many possible causes of stress during the major life change of pregnancy, you might be feeling a loss of control, or that you don’t have the resources for this life changing experience. You may have had a previous negative pregnancy experience, or you don’t feel ready for the physical changes of pregnancy. And the current Coronavirus pandemic, which is making life in general more stressful for many people because of the rapid changes taking place and having to adopt unfamiliar behaviours, will not be helping you to feel less stressed.
Stress could cause problems for your baby, for example affecting your unborn baby’s growth, or an increased risk of problems with your baby’s future physical and mental development. So as well as taking care of your physical health during your pregnancy, it’s important to look after your mental wellbeing by trying to manage and deal with the stress you’re experiencing.
